Roz Vanderhoof - My Mom
Last spring when my mom and I were planning to open up Scrapbook Your Art Out, I started rummaging through my mom's storage areas in her house looking some cute items that could be used in the store and also for some old jewelry that my daughter Taylor could borrow to wear in a play. She was playing the part of the wicked stepmother in "Cinderella" and needed some jewelry for the part. Mom knew she had some old jewelry from the 50's that we thought might look great on stage. While looking through boxes, I came across a Mother's day present that I gave to mom when I was in 7th grade. I wrote a story about her, just a one page article, on an entry sheet provided by the local park district. That year the town of Westchester, Illinois conducted a contest for the "Best Mom in Westchester". I immediately knew I found my entry when I saw a red cloth framed picture frame with white eyelet trim. My entry won. Mom was so proud that she saved the article along with all of my childhood presents. Mom decided to bring the memento into the store for a Mother's Day display. She loved saving all my school art work and handmade gifts and supported me in all my efforts.
I remember when I was in school, my mom usually worked on homework too. She attended college when my brother and I were in school, obtained a degree in Computer Science and worked for Bell Laboratories as a Computer Science engineer. Later, Siemens telecommunications division, recruited mom to join the firm in Boca Raton, FL. Mom worked for Siemens for 17 years as a Senior Member of Technical Staff and later as a contractor. Mom brought her technical knowledge into Scrapbook Your Art Out. She runs the business and coffee side of the house and of course brought digital computing into the store with an up-to-date Point Of Sale system and new LUCI photo workstations.
The LUCI workstations give our customers the ability to obtain any size photo needed for scrapbooking. The stations also provide great scrapbooking pages, greeting cards and invitations. Mom loves keeping up with new technology, and knows that even traditional scrapbookers benefit from the time-saving digital stations to reproduce their albums as gifts for their family and friends.
